Celebrating National Nanny Recognition Week

This week is National Nanny Recognition Week, which ends in just a couple of days, though you can still celebrate your nanny, and I always recommend celebrating them even after NNRW is over. NNRW is a special opportunity to celebrate the dedicated professionals who care for, support, teach, love, and encourage children every day.
Nannies do so much more than many of us realize. Their work deserves recognition and appreciation. They soothe children during tough days, celebrate exciting milestones, build meaningful routines and relationships, plan amazing adventures, offer so much love, create the best arts and crafts, create a space for the child, meet them where they are at, and become trusted partners to parents. They often know just the right snack to prevent a meltdown, the perfect song to calm a crying baby, and the words that make a child feel safe and understood. Their work requires patience, flexibility, creativity, emotional awareness, and an incredible amount of heart.
At The Nanny Consultant, we are grateful for every nanny who has trusted us to be part of their journey. We see the effort you put into your work, the relationships you build, and the positive impact you have on the families you support. Thank you for showing up—even on the challenging days—and for giving so much of yourselves to the children in your care.
How Families Can Celebrate Their Nannies
Recognition does not have to be elaborate or expensive. What matters most is letting your nanny know you notice and genuinely appreciate their work. Here are a few meaningful ways to celebrate your nanny over the next year.
Write a Personal Thank You Note
Take a few minutes to tell your nanny specifically what you appreciate about them – I know for many of us, myself included, a handwritten note goes so far. Mention the ways they have helped your family or the qualities that make them special. A heartfelt card from the parents—along with a drawing or message from the children—can be incredibly meaningful.
Surprise Your Nanny with Their Favorite Coffee or Lunch
Pick up their favorite coffee, breakfast, or lunch. It is a simple gesture that says, “We were thinking about you, and we appreciate everything you do.”
Give a Gift That You Know They Will Enjoy
Flowers, a small gift basket, a candle, a book, a spa day, or something connected to your nanny’s interests can be a lovely surprise. The gift does not need to be expensive to feel personal.
Offer a Gift Card
A gift card allows your nanny to choose something they will truly enjoy. Consider a gift card for coffee, a favorite restaurant, Target, Amazon, or another local business they love.
Give Your Nanny a Bonus
If it is within your family’s budget, a monetary bonus is one of the most practical and meaningful ways to recognize your nanny’s hard work. Even a modest bonus can make your nanny feel valued and appreciated. This would pair well with the handwritten note!
Provide an Extra Day of PTO
An extra paid afternoon or day off can be a wonderful way to say thank you. Nannies spend their working days caring for others, so giving them time to rest and recharge can be especially meaningful.

Don't Forget to Include Your Children
Help your children make a card, draw a picture, decorate cookies, choose flowers, or create a short video sharing what they love about their nanny. These personal gestures often become the keepsakes nannies treasure most. I have mine from over 20 years ago – not kidding!
Appreciation Should Be Continued Past This Week
National Nanny Recognition Week is a beautiful reminder to express gratitude, though nannies deserve to feel respected and valued year-round. Ongoing appreciation also means:
· Paying a competitive, legal wage through payroll
· Providing guaranteed hours
· Providing appropriate overtime pay
· Offering 2 weeks of paid time off
· Offering paid holidays
· Offering paid sick time
· Offering bereavement leave
· Offering a car on the job or mileage and car insurance reimbursement
· Respecting your nanny’s working hours and personal boundaries
· Communicating openly and professionally
· Providing regular feedback and acknowledging excellent work
· Treating your nanny as the valued professional they are
A strong nanny-family relationship is built on mutual trust, respect, communication, and appreciation.
To every nanny: thank you for the comfort you provide, the lessons you teach, the memories you create, and the love you give. Your work matters deeply, and the difference you make extends far beyond the walls of the homes where you work.
Happy National Nanny Recognition Week from The Nanny Consultant!
